Cuin5
Project Overview
Cuin5 is a hyper-local lifestyle and logistics platform built on the principle of "radical proximity." While most delivery apps focus on the convenience of a city-wide catalogue, Cuin5 narrows the lens to a user’s immediate 5-minute radius on foot, ensuring that essential goods and services are available 24/7.
The Challenge
In dense urban environments, users often feel "location-blind" and are unaware of the immediate resources available just around the corner. The challenge was to design an interface that makes "instant" a reality by surfacing only what is truly within reach at a walking pace. Crucially, this convenience had to be balanced with robust safety measures to ensure users feel secure when engaging with local vendors or couriers in their immediate vicinity.
The Solution
The solution was to create a map-first mobile experience that visualises the user’s "5-minute walking zone." By integrating real-time inventory and service availability, Cuin5 empowers users to find essentials: from groceries to professional services. To address safety and privacy, the platform allows users to manually set specific pickup or meeting locations, ensuring they are never forced to reveal their exact home address to maintain a high level of personal security.
Design Strategy & Features
1. The "5-Minute" Walking Visualisation
The core of the UI is centred around a dynamic map overlay. Unlike standard maps that show everything, Cuin5 uses a high-contrast "zone" to highlight businesses within a 5-minute journey on foot.
Design Focus: Reducing cognitive load by filtering out irrelevant options outside the immediate pedestrian vicinity.
2. Safety-First Location Controls
User safety was a central priority during the design phase. The interface allows for the manual selection of meeting points and pickup locations.
User Value: Provides peace of mind by giving users full control over where interactions take place, such as choosing a well-lit public spot rather than a private residence.
3. Personalised Pace Settings
To ensure the radius is accurate for every individual, the app includes a setting to adjust the default walking speed. This customisation allows the map to expand or contract based on the user's specific mobility.
Interface Detail: A simple slider within the settings menu that dynamically updates the map view in real-time.
4. Real-Time Availability Engine
To support the "no matter the time of day" promise, the app utilises live data feeds to show open shopfronts and active service providers.
User Value: Eliminates the frustration of walking to a closed shop or ordering an item that is out of stock.
The Impact
By focusing on the immediate social and commercial circle, Cuin5 transforms the neighbourhood into an accessible pantry and service hub. It moves the needle from "global convenience" to "local empowerment," helping users reclaim their time and support the vendors closest to home while maintaining a rigorous standard for personal safety.
